Vlada Janjić, Schwabe, and Ali Güney
THIS SATURDAY, heavyweight champs from three generations of DJs, Vlada Janjić, Schwabe, and Ali Güney.
Three different approaches, yet the matching drive for depth connects them.
Vlada Janjić has participated in the very creation of the local DJ scene. The man behind b92's Stereo Freeze radio show, which he hosted for a quarter of a century, has left a mark in the nineties with sets at THE nightclubbing institution Industrija. If you haven't been clubbing at the time, you had to come across one of the compilations he curated, "Belgrade Coffee Shop" or "Radio Utopia," which left the general audience in awe of what level of electronic production came from the city. Recently, as the leader of the Apgrade series, Janjić is responsible for bringing some of the most influential names to Belgrade.
Local promoters in Belgrade often describe their perfect night of hosting as picking up someone from the airport, taking them to dinner, and straight away to a Schwabe all-nighter. This is just one way to describe the clean name and reputation Schwabe has been building for himself on the demanding Belgrade nightlife scene for over a decade. Whether he's releasing as one-half of the acclaimed folkfield Malka Tuti/Offen signees, Tapan, or DJing one of his marathon sets, one thing is clear - Schwabe is an act of patience and masterful flow.
Ali Güney traded the salty waters of Izmir for Belgrade's multilayered nightlife more than a decade ago and earned all the badges a local can snatch in this game. As a regular at Drugstore, Dim, Para, Kc Grad, and many other Belgrade dens, Ali is the synonym for the city's underground, has most local festivals in his pocket, and operates the infamous Lift in Cetinjska bar heaven.
